NOW IN STOCK - Straddle Carrier Inspections

Storm Ciara

Our BIGGEST equipment inspection (literally) is NOW IN STOCK!

A Straddle Carrier otherwise known as a Straddle Truck is a heavy load transportation vehicle. Unlike conventional trucks, the Straddle Carrier transports the load underneath itself by driving into position, grasping and picking it up then carrying it to the new destination point.

Straddle Carriers are still very popular in a variety of different industry sectors, such as lumber, shipping ports etc. This is due to their ability to load or offload in a single operation, which improves efficiency.

Due to their size, these massive pieces of machinery can be extremely dangerous to human life. Straddle Carriers fall under both The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 and Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER). These regulation imposes specific legal duties on businesses to provide, inspect, maintain and operate safe work equipment.

Around 13% of all lifting equipment incidents are attributed to poor maintenance such as the failure of wire ropes/cables.

Assuming the risk of deterioration is an ongoing inevitability, the importance of daily / weekly checks to identify any day-to-day Straddle Carrier damage, faults or failure cannot be underestimated. It would be madness to rely purely on a 12 month LOLER inspection.

Ensuring that lifting equipment is fit for purpose is a vital element of any programme aiming to achieve high standards of health and safety. Now that you have a choice of our Paper Checklists or a Digital Inspection using our TakeAIM app there is no excuse.
