Man Injured In Oreos Factory Forklift Accident

A Laurel County man is recovering at UK Hospital after he was injured in a forklift accident at the cookie factory where he worked.

Walter Garrett, was working at the Laurel Cookie Factory on South Laurel Road, when he became stuck between a forklift and a wall.

A co-worker found the 35-year-old trapped just a little after 6:00 a.m. The co-worker said that the forklift was in gear and the emergency break was not set.

Police said that Garrett was operating the forklift when he stepped off it to shrink wrap a pallet. While his back was to the machine, it rolled toward him and trapped him against the wall.

Rescuers freed Garrett and he was airlifted to UK Hospital.

Garrett is now in fair condition. LEX 18 attempted to contact the Laurel Cookie Factory about the accident, but they have not yet responded.

The factory has been in Laurel County since 1994 and it produces Oreos.
